Hi everyone,
This week we’re looking at something that affects all of us – at work, in training, and in everyday life – healthy relationships and boundaries. We know this topic can feel personal, and some people may wonder why it’s included. The reason is simple: your wellbeing, safety and confidence matterand understanding boundaries helps you navigate workplaces, teams and interactions more comfortably.
Healthy relationships – whether with colleagues, friends, family, partners or peers – are built on respect, communication and choice. They help us feel safe, valued and able to focus on our goals. Boundaries are the limits we set to protect our time, energy and wellbeing – and everyone’s boundaries look different, which is completely normal.
Here are a few signs of healthy interactions you can expect in any setting:
- Respectful communication – being listened to, spoken to politely, and treated fairly
- Personal space and privacy – your information, time and comfort levels are acknowledged
- Choice and control – you’re not pressured into decisions or situations
- Supportive behaviour – people encourage your wellbeing, not undermine it
And here are some examples of unhealthy or concerning behaviour to be aware of:
- Pressure or manipulation
- Disrespect or put‑downs
- Crossing boundaries repeatedly
- Controlling behaviour
If something doesn’t feel right – at work, in training, or in your personal life – you’re never expected to manage it alone. You can always speak to your coach, your employer, or our safeguarding team. You’ll be listened to, taken seriously, and supported.
Quick reflection for this week: Think about one boundary that helps you feel comfortable at work or in your personal life and how you can communicate it clearly and confidently.
If you ever want to talk something through, our safeguarding team is here to help. Share your concern with the Activate Learning Safeguarding Team at safe@activatelearning.ac.uk or call 01865 550401
You can also speak to your employer’s safeguarding or HR lead if that feels easier.
Kind regards
The Activate Apprenticeships Team
