Activate Business School and CTP partnership

Activate Learning is deepening its support for those leaving the Armed Forces by offering tailored leadership and management programmes via Activate Business School.

As an approved provider under the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) and the Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELCAS), Activate Learning delivers flexible learning pathways tailored for service leavers moving into the civilian workplace.

As a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, Activate Learning is proud to honour our obligation to those who have served by offering a genuine and meaningful route to civilian careers.

Jayne Atkinson, Head of Sales at Activate Business School, said: “We recognise the exceptional skills and discipline that service personnel bring to civilian employment, teamwork, resilience, leadership under pressure and we are committed to helping harness those strengths through accredited training and support.”

Supporting service leavers into leadership and professional roles

Activate Business School offers a suite of programmes designed to support service leavers at different career stages.

This includes qualifications such as the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Level 3 Award in First Line Leadership and Management, tailored for individuals moving into supervisory roles.

It also offers higher level apprenticeships and leadership development, for example operations manager level, for those stepping into strategic or managerial roles.

With its flexible delivery options, Activate Business School can accommodate transitioning personnel adapting to civilian working patterns.

Jayne added: “Service leavers bring with them a wealth of transferable skills that employers value enormously, from leadership and adaptability to the ability to perform under pressure.

“At Activate Business School, we work with them to translate those strengths into recognised qualifications that open doors to rewarding civilian careers.

“Our approach is personal and supportive, built around Activate Learning’s award-winning Learning Philosophy, taking time to understand each individual’s goals and design learning pathways that build on their existing experience.

“By combining this with accredited professional development, we help learners move confidently into management, leadership, or specialist roles.

“Our commitment as a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant underpins everything we do. It ensures that we continue to support our armed forces community with fairness, respect, and opportunities to thrive in civilian life.”

Gary Headland DL, Chief Executive Officer of Activate Learning said:

“Those who serve in our Armed Forces demonstrate exceptional leadership, resilience, and commitment in the most demanding of circumstances. At Activate Learning, we believe our responsibility under the Armed Forces Covenant is to ensure those strengths are recognised and nurtured.

“Through our partnership with the Career Transition Partnership and our programmes at Activate Business School, we are proud to provide meaningful pathways into civilian leadership and management roles where service leavers can continue to thrive.”

Progression routes

What happens next? Most people stay on with the employer they train with, but there are plenty of options! You may decide to study a higher-level apprenticeship, return to academic studies, or work full time. We will support you whatever you decide!

The apprenticeship programme

You will have access to a range of support and advice we have on offer. This includes support from Advice and Admissions, Learning Support and Student Support.

You can access all facilities at Activate Learning Colleges and reap benefits, such as student discount. However, you may not be entitled to certain funding and travel bursaries as apprenticeships are paid positions.

How much will I earn?

The amount you’ll earn will vary depending on the nature of your role, sector and business you are working with.

The minimum hourly rate for an apprentice is £8.00, however most apprentices are paid more than this. If you are over 19 and have completed one year, you will be paid national minimum wage.

You will also be entitled to the same conditions as all other employees in a business, including paid holiday, sick pay and pensions (where requirements are met).

What can I expect from my apprenticeship?

You must be at least 16 years old when you start an apprenticeship.

There are 3 types of apprenticeships depending on your requirements and previous qualifications: day release, work-based and block-release.

Your apprenticeship programme may be assessed with:

  • Practical assessments/exams
  • A portfolio of evidence
  • Interviews and presentations
  • Final assessments
  • On and off the job training

You will have a performance coach visit your workplace every eight weeks as well as an inhouse mentor throughout your apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship typically lasts 24 months, but can vary between 12 months to 5 years.
