Activate Apprenticeships awarded as approved end point assessment provider by City & Guilds for excellence in apprenticeship delivery

Activate Apprenticeships, part of the Activate Learning group, are delighted to announce they have been awarded as an Approved EPA Provider by City & Guilds in recognition for their excellence in apprenticeship delivery.

Mark Dewsbury, Construction and Motor Vehicle Apprenticeship Manager, Adrian Dedman Carpentry Assessor and Alex Gowney, Teacher “Trowel Trades, have all been commended for their dedication to student achievement and their apprentices’ results in end point assessments (EPAs).”

Staff at Activate Apprenticeships in partnership with City & Guilds worked together to ensure learners had everything they needed to succeed throughout their apprenticeship programme considering the new EPA framework.

Recognition for excellence in delivery

Shelley Cooke, Business Development Manager at City & Guilds, said: “I am delighted to award Activate Learning in recognition for their delivery and end point assessments. “

“Working together, we’ve noticed the passion to ensure things were right. Teachers at Activate Apprenticeships were not prepared to rush learners through the process and ensured everything was in place for apprentices to succeed. “

“Activate Apprenticeships tutors and staff have challenged us, asking all the right questions and we have been delighted to work alongside them.”

“This award today is for the high merits and distinctions achieved in end point assessments. The quality of these EPAs has been recognised and Activate Apprenticeships are commended for being a high-quality provider with EPA excellence and high results.

“Over the years, we’ve seen the learner base grow, and we’re delighted to be a partner of Activate Learning and would like to congratulate everyone at Activate Apprenticeships.”

Helping apprentices to thrive

Paul Newman, Executive Director of Curriculum at Activate Learning, said: “This award really shows the significance around the Activate Apprenticeships teams’ response to the changing landscape of apprenticeship qualifications and end point assessments.”

“They have worked confidentially and comfortably with that unknown so it’s a real testament to the team, their skills and the leadership to develop an End Point Assessment Readiness programme that has achieved such great things for our students.”

“This is significant for the City of Oxford College Technology Campus in Blackbird Leys because we’re synonymous with construction training and apprenticeships are the pinnacle in construction education.”

“So, it’s absolutely paramount that we can demonstrate that not only can we take students and young people without initial career aspirations, but we can also shape and support them, giving them a sense of opportunity and what is there for their future.”

What happens next? Most people stay on with the employer they train with, but there are plenty of options! You may decide to study a higher-level apprenticeship, return to academic studies, or work full time. We will support you whatever you decide!

The apprenticeship programme

You will have access to a range of support and advice we have on offer. This includes support from Advice and Admissions, Learning Support and Student Support.

You can access all facilities at Activate Learning Colleges and reap benefits, such as student discount. However, you may not be entitled to certain funding and travel bursaries as apprenticeships are paid positions.

How much will I earn?

The amount you’ll earn will vary depending on the nature of your role, sector and business you are working with.

The minimum hourly rate for an apprentice is £8.00, however most apprentices are paid more than this. If you are over 19 and have completed one year, you will be paid national minimum wage.

You will also be entitled to the same conditions as all other employees in a business, including paid holiday, sick pay and pensions (where requirements are met).

What can I expect from my apprenticeship?

You must be at least 16 years old when you start an apprenticeship.

There are 3 types of apprenticeships depending on your requirements and previous qualifications: day release, work-based and block-release.

Your apprenticeship programme may be assessed with:

  • Practical assessments/exams
  • A portfolio of evidence
  • Interviews and presentations
  • Final assessments
  • On and off the job training

You will have a performance coach visit your workplace every eight weeks as well as an inhouse mentor throughout your apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship typically lasts 24 months, but can vary between 12 months to 5 years.
