The idea of Activate Apprenticeships started in 2013.
Sally Dicketts, Group CEO of Activate Learning, and Pablo Lloyd, previously a founding director of the national training business learndirect, foresaw major changes in the government’s apprenticeship policy. We now know these changes as the apprenticeship levy, employer-designed standards and related reforms.
With employers given more influence by the government, we saw an opportunity for a new kind of training provider.
A joint venture called Activate Enterprise was formed between Activate Learning and Pablo Lloyd to give businesses what they need.
Our ambition was to combine the best of Activate Learning’s educational pedigree with exceptional commercial flexibility. This came to life in early 2014, when 12 apprenticeship teams from the group’s three colleges, plus Rocket Consultancy, were transferred into the joint venture and Pablo joined as CEO.
Activate Apprenticeships & Activate Business School
Building on a successful history of over 50 years’ training and educational delivery, we are now known as:
- Activate Apprenticeships – the specialist apprenticeship division of Activate Learning, and
- Activate Business School – the team specialising in leadership, management and professional development.
Our vision remains growing people growing business, through integrity and agility. That means the quality and flexibility of our training helps clients grow their people, who are then equipped to grow the business.
Our people, our clients, our partners and our services have also grown.
As experts in apprenticeship reforms, we provide advice to clients on all aspects of learning and development, recruitment, apprenticeship standards, funding compliance and securing return on training investment.
Our delivery model is based on a managed service, which looks ‘upstream’ to deliver exactly to clients’ requirements, and ‘downstream’ to our own teams and specialist delivery partners across the UK. This maximises flexibility for clients, with clear expectations for all partners and stakeholders.
Our award-winning training is provided by our own teams at clients’ sites nationally. A third of our activity is provided by teaching staff in the group’s seven campuses, plus specialist engineering and cycle technician provider ATG Training which joined the group in 2016. We also work with specialist sub-contractors as required by clients.
With skills in short supply in many sectors, we help with recruitment and provide a talent pipeline from 16,000 students who study with Activate Learning’s colleges and schools across Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.
We cover a broad range of sectors including; automotive, business, care, construction, digital, education, engineering, furniture, hair, hospitality, logistics and sport.
